Sugar analysis is important in the generation of nutritional panels, as both the sugar content and the total carbohydrate content must be included. HPLC analysis using an amino-based stationary phase is the most popular technique for routine analyses of simple sugars using isocratic elution (e.g., acetonitrile:water, 75:25) and a refractive index detector (RID).
